Kroger Co (NYSE: KR) reported a rise in its third-quarter profit.

Kroger's quarterly profit surged to $316.5 million, or $0.60 per share, versus $195.9 million, or $0.33 per share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding special items, Kroger earned $0.46 per share.

Its revenue climbed to $21.81 billion from $20.59 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.43 per share on revenue of $21.59 billion.

Kroger lifted its full-year earnings forecast to $2.44 to $2.46 per share, from its earlier forecast of $2.35 to $2.42 per share.

Kroger shares gained 3.99% to $26.06 in pre-market trading.
