Zynga
ZNGA
, the social games provider, and Hasbro
HAS
, the toys and games manufacturer, are teaming up to bring toys based on the popular Farmville online game into the real world. The deal sees Hasbro granted the rights to create a range of toys and games based on Zynga's online games including Farmville, Cityville and Words With Friends. Zynga CEO Mark Pincus said in a press release, "It's exciting to partner with Hasbro as we share a common vision for play and a mission to connect the world through games. This partnership is so special because it represents an exciting leap forward in enabling people to connect their virtual and real worlds. Hasbro has inspired play through their famous toys, games and action figures and we look forward to working with a company that continually creates meaningful and fun brands.” Meanwhile, Hasbro CEO Brian Golder said, "Hasbro is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Zynga's immensely popular social games to life in a variety of creative and new expressions that reflect consumers' growing desire to surround themselves with gaming brands they love anytime, anywhere together with their friends and family. Zynga is bringing more games to mainstream culture and is redefining how people play. At Hasbro, we're proud to help bring their games to even more people around the world. Benzinga reported
Monday that Hasbro had seen its second quarter net profit drop 25 percent. The company's quarterly profit fell to $43.4 million, or $0.33 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $58.1 million, or $0.42 per share. Its revenue declined 11 percent to $811.5 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.23 per share on revenue of $829 million. Hasbro's US and Canada segment revenue declined 19 percent, while international segment revenue dropped 3.7 percent. Zynga reports its earnings on Wednesday, though the opportunity to expand revenue generation outside of the internet will obviously be beneficial, following on the heels of Rovio and its Angry Birds toys. On Tuesday Zynga traded at about $5, down roughly 0.3 percent. Hasbro traded at about $35.30, up roughly 0.2 percent.
