Stocks To Watch For July 1

Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:

Apollo Group Inc (NASDAQ: APOL) reported upbeat third-quarter results and projected FY11 revenue above estimates. Apollo expected FY11 consolidated revenue of $4.65 to $4.75 billion, versus analysts' estimates of $4.67 billion. Apollo's new enrollment dropped 40.5%, while total enrollment declined 16.4%. Apollo reported its quarterly adjusted earnings at $1.45 per share, up from analysts' estimates of $1.33 per share. Its revenue dropped to $1.24 billion, from $1.34 billion, in the year-earlier period. APOL shares fell 1.56% to $43.00 in after-hours trading.

General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) is scheduled to report June sales. GM shares gained 0.20% to close at $30.36 yesterday.

Darden Restaurants Inc (NYSE: DRI) reported about 19% rise in its fourth-quarter profit. The company reported its quarterly net income at $137.4 million, or $0.99 per share, up from $115.6 million, or $0.80 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue surged to around $2 billion, from about $1.9 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of $1 per share on revenue of $1.99 billion. DRI shares dropped 1.57% to $48.98 in after-hours trading.

Xyratex Ltd (NASDAQ: XRTX) reported downbeat fiscal second-quarter results. The company reported a quarterly net loss of $4.6 million, or $0.15 per share, compared with a profit of $43.7 million, or $1.39 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, XRTX's net loss came in at $0.06 per share. Its revenue dropped 26% y/y to $338.5 million, from $455.9 million. Analysts were expecting earnings of $0.00 per share on revenue of $339.53 million. XRTX shares dipped 5.46% to $9.70 in the after-hours trading session.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is all set to report June sales. Ford shares rose 0.51% to $13.86 in after-hours trading.
