According to Netflix's internal research, the trend of binging on a TV series and then following up with a movie is gaining momentum. Fifty-nine (59) percent of Netflix members take a pause of around three days before committing to a new show but fill that void with a moving to "keep the binge feeling alive."

"It's interesting that in this golden age of television, movies are consistently in demand on Netflix," said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer, Netflix. "What we've come to figure out is that movies are really an important part of people's viewing routines and complementary to the way they watch and enjoy TV."

Netflix knows its customers are hooked on its entertainment platform, and here are some of the other binging patterns Netflix observed:

  • After watching "House of Cards," some members opted for a similar theme of a ruthless leader and tuned in to "Beasts of No Nation."
  • "Gilmore Girls" fans revisited classics like "Dirty Dancing" and "Sixteen Candles" after binging on the recently released update to the sitcom.
  • "Orange Is the New Black" fans chose to watch "Spotlight," "The Big Short" and "The Do-Over."
  • Fans of "Narcos" followed up the show by also watching "Pulp Fiction" and "Beasts of No Nation."
