'Star Wars: Rogue One' Content Coming Exclusively To Twitter

In what could be a win-win scenario for both
Walt Disney Co DIS
and
Twitter Inc TWTR
, the pair announced live-steaming of some "never-before-seen" content from the upcoming latest Star Wars film,
"Rogue One."

Star Wars is an American space opera franchise based on a film series created by George Lucas. Having made its appearance in 1977, with the Star Wars, it has been a celebrated franchise, which is hugely successful commercially.

Streaming Event

Twitter and Disney announced Tuesday that they would show footage from the movie as part of an hour-long live streaming show beginning 10 a.m. PT Friday. The event is due to be hosted by the Time's People magazine. To make the event even more attractive, a Q&A session with the cast from a surprise location has been scheduled.

Twitter's thrust into exclusive live video content is likely to get a big boost from the proposed offering, given Star Wars' popularity. With the content exclusive to Twitter at least at the time of streaming, it is expected to give a boost to user statistics.

The movie is set to hit the theaters on December 16. The final trailer for the movie, titled "Trust," was released this week.

Twitter already has partnership with Wimbledon CBS, Bloomberg Media and NFL for streaming live video content. The NFL deal for broadcasting Thursday night games was signed earlier this year and was valued at $10 million.

This partnership assumes significance, as Disney is among the speculated potential suitors for the social networking company.

At Time Of Writing

  • Disney was up 0.39 percent at $99.34.
  • Twitter was gaining 0.82 percent at $18.45.
