China Stock Markets Trade Mixed


Chinese stocks were trading mixed on Wednesday. The Shanghai Composite Index dropped 4.37 points, or 0.14 percent to 3,202.62, while the Shenzhen Composite rose 0.12 percent to 548.80.

The U.S. dollar/ Chinese yuan pair was trading at 6.8671 on Wednesday. The dollar index was trading at 99.909.

iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index (ETF) FXI shares gained 1.40 percent to close at $36.26 on Tuesday, while SPDR S&P China (ETF) GXC rose 2.11 percent to close at $75.16.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 0.29 percent, to 18,923.06, the S&P500 index rose 0.75 percent to 2,180.39, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.10 percent to 5,275.62.

Oil prices traded lower on Wednesday, with the US WTI crude futures on the NYMEX dropping 0.39 percent to trade at $46.21 a barrel.

Top market movers among the Shanghai Composite index are as follows:

  • China United Network Communications Ltd (600050: SHH) shares gained 3 percent to 5.58 CNY.
  • Inner Mongolia BaoTou Steel Union Co Ltd (600010: SHH) rose 1.4 percent to 2.96 CNY.
  • SAIC Motor Corp Ltd (600104: SHH) shares rose 0.6 percent to 23.48 CNY.

 

  • China Railway Group Ltd (601390: SHH) shares dropped around 2 percent to 9.29 CNY.
  • China State Construction Engineering Corp Ltd (601668: SHH) dropped 1.6 percent to 7.80 CNY.
  • China Northern Rare Earth Group High-Tech Co Ltd (600111: SHH) fell 1.3 percent to 13.34 CNY.
