Facebook Live's New Feature Will Look Familiar To Snapchat Users

Facebook Inc FB is once again taking a page out of the Snapchat book, adding Halloween themed selfie filters – for live video only.

These augmented reality “masks,” as Facebook calls them, look like a slightly altered version of Snapchat's animated lenses. They were, however, based on MSQRD's technology – Facebook acquired MSQRD earlier this year.

The new feature will allow users to broadcast live video looking like an evil queen, a pumpkin or even a witch.

Facebook is also releasing a suite of limited-edition Halloween reactions, including an angry pumpkin, a sad Frankenstein, a surprised ghost and a laughing witch.

These features will be rolling out in the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand in the next few days. However, it should be noted that they will be available for Apple Inc. AAPL iPhone users only.

"In the coming months, we will make masks available to people sharing live video via Android devices and in more countries," Facebook added.
