The Dow fell 0.03 percent to 18,164.51, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.40 percent to 5,262.08. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 0.21 percent to 2,138.70.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Regional Airlines: This industry slipped 6 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Southwest Airlines Co LUV, which fell 11 percent. Southwest reported mixed results for the third quarter. While EPS topped, revenue fell shy of expectations modestly.
  • Diagnostic Substances: This industry declined 2.6 percent by 11:00 am with Quotient Ltd QTNT moving down 12 percent. Quotient shares have declined 42.36 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 3.48 percent in the same period.
  • Electronic Equipment: This industry fell 1.6 percent by 11:00 am ET. Apple Inc. AAPL shares dropped 3 percent in today's trading. Apple reported better-than-expected earnings for its fourth quarter. However, revenue of $46.9 billion, down 8.9 percent year-over-year, was in line with expectations.
  • Drugs Wholesale: The industry dropped 1.4 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Cardinal Health Inc CAH, which declined 1.7 percent.
