Airbnb Is Cracking Down On Multiple Listings

Running a multiple listing Airbnb rental business? Your days could be numbered.

Airbnb announced it was banning multi-listing hosts in New York and San Francisco.

Airbnb's existence has always been met with controversy and threat of litigation, knowing that city and state governments are looking to crack down abuse of the service to serve as a makeshift hotel operator.

According to a report from Engadget, as of November 1 residential hosts will be banned from offering multiple listings in New York and in San Francisco.

What does this mean? Users can't buy several properties and rent them out through the service to turn a profit. The service will utilize a three-strike policy that will permanently ban repeat offenders.

Affordable housing advocates have been particularly outraged with Airbnb and its multiple listing offenders that have threatened rent prices in their neighborhoods.

With New York Governor Andrew Cuomo expected to sign a bill that fines Airbnb hosts caught violating the law, the litigation surrounding Airbnb may not end anytime soon.
