Subway Showdown: New York Mets Beats New York Yankees In TV Ratings For First Time Ever

New low for the New York Yankees? For the first time ever, the New York Mets were king of the local New York TV market.

Coming off a 2015 World Series appearance, the Mets are set to take on the San Francisco Giants in the playoffs. The Yankees finished in fourth place in the AL East.

Mets games averaged 263,850 viewers on its SNY network, compared to 218,000 on the Yankees YES network in the nation's biggest TV market.

The numbers aren't solely due to the team's performance, as the YES Network was kept out of 900,000 homes due to a dispute between YES and 21st Century Fox Inc. FOXA and Comcast Corporation CMCSA.

The Mets received a household rating of 2.73, the highest number since 2008. The Giants will take on the Mets on October 5 in a one game wild-card playoff.
