NYC-Based Sketch Comedy Show Hosts No Text Weekend

Blogologues, a sketch comedy show based in New York City, organized the No Text Weekend (NTW) initiative to bring awareness to the dangers of overreliance on texting. In particular, through the movement the show aims to communicate texting’s tendency to foster less personal relationships and bar basic communications skills. The challenge began Friday and runs through the weekend.

“[W]e're also using it (texting) for arguments, apologies, work, dating, break-ups [...] and many more conversations where we really should just [...] talk,” No Texting Weekend’s website states. “Frankly, it'd be more effective and empathetic if we did.”

The initiative is not a total technology trash movement. Instead, its emphasizes that texting should not be the sole or main mode of communication because studies have shown that traditional human-to-human interactions is healthier. Over the weekend, participants are encouraged to call friends or chat face-to-face.

Blogologues will host a variety of events in New York City throughout the weekend to encourage face-to-face interaction among participants. Those interested in the events or those who want to learn more about the movement can visit the initiative’s main webpage, which is http://www.notextweekend.com/ntw-events-how-to-stop-texting.
