The Dow rose 0.37 percent to 18,197.69, while the NASDAQ composite index gained 0.47 percent to 5,266.01. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.43 percent to 2,148.31.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Shipping: This industry slipped 3.5 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Rand Logistics, Inc. RLOG, which fell 3.6 percent. Rand Logistics’ PEG ratio is -0.03.
  • Toy & Hobby Stores: This industry declined 0.9 percent by 11:00 am with Build-A-Bear Workshop, Inc BBW moving down 1.1 percent. Build-A-Bear shares have tumbled 47.14 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 8.78 percent in the same period.
  • Long Distance Carriers: This industry fell 0.8 percent by 11:00 am ET. Elephant Talk Communications Corp ETAK shares dropped 3.2 percent in today's trading. Elephant Talk Communications shares have dropped 64.07 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has increased 8.78 percent in the same period.
  • Residential Construction: The industry dropped 0.7 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Cavco Industries, Inc. CVCO, which declined 0.3 percent.
