Donald Trump Jr. Compares Syrian Refugees To A Bowl Of Candy; Skittles Responds

Donald Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., caused a firestorm on Twitter Inc TWTR when he compared Syrian refugees to a bowl of Skittles.

The Tweet showed a picture of a large bowl of Skittles with the caption: "If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful? That's our Syrian refugee problem."

Many recognize the bad taste comparing the suffering of millions of people with a candy.

Why Would He Make This Comparison?

According to a Reuters report, Germany's domestic intelligence agency said in February that "terrorists... have slipped into Germany camouflaged or disgusted as refugees." The agency has also received "more than 100" tips that ISIS fighters are embedded among the 1.1 million refugees seeking refugee and safety within Germany's borders.

According to Greece-based Ekathimerini, at least three of the terrorists involved in the Brussels terror attack in March passed through the Greek island of Leros and posed as Syrian refugees. It's also believed that the a terrorist involved in the November attacks in Paris also arrived on Leros from the Turkish before moving on to France.

Response

Nevertheless, Trump Jr.'s Tweet is in poor taste and Skittles issued a public response.

"Skittles are candy," Denise Young, VP of Corporate Affairs for Skittles' parent company, Wrigley Americas, said in a statement. "Refugees are people. We don't feel it's an appropriate analogy. We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing."
