"The FAA was very upset back then that we made any recommendations at all," the AP quoted Tom Haueter, an NTSB investigator and head of aviation safety at the time, as saying. He added, "They [the FAA] thought this was a success story." But the investigators wanted to put procedures into place to make sure this didn't happen again. Haueter continued, "This could happen again and we want to make sure that if it does, there are some better safety measures in place."

The recommendations that weren't addressed "deal with pilot training, directions for pilots facing the loss of power in both engines, equipping planes with life rafts and vests and making it easier for passengers to use them, among other issues," according to the AP.

In light of the recent Warner Bros. (Time Warner Inc TWX) release of "Sully," — a reenactment based on the events of Flight 1549 — it is high time to reconsider the implications of not implementing the safety advisories circulated after the incident.
