Garmin Says New Titled Transducer Design Issue Is Still Pending In Court

Garmin Ltd GRMN's unit reacted to the modified order of the International Trade Commission in the patent investigation issue brought up by Navico Holdings. The company indicated the revised order is yet to address its new titled DownVu scanning sonar transducer design. The company believes it did not infringe.

Garmin disclosed that the patent issue in respect of its transducer design, which is alleged to have Navico's patent, is still pending before the court and government agencies. The company indicated that Navico has not accused the company of infringing its design before the regulator.

However, on August 25, the company pointed out that "Navico issued a press release regarding the ITC's modified order that incorrectly asserts that the new tilted design infringes on their patents as no court or government agency has ever made any infringement ruling on Garmin's new tilted transducer design."

On the other hand, Garmin said the revised order only confirmed the regulator's prevision decide disclosed in December last year suggesting that the company could import, as well as, sell Down Vu scanning sonar transducers. The order included original design since they did not infringing any of Navico's valid claims on patents.

The company clarified that the revised order is applicable only to it and that it does not have any impact on any distributor or dealer or retailer inventory.

On Friday, the stock closed at $50.20 losing $0.32, or 0.63 percent.
