As September approaches each year, Apple Inc. AAPL shareholders always begin debating the year’s product launches. Apple has an Apple Watch 2 event scheduled for October, but some say that the device might be unveiled as early as September 6 at Apple’s iPhone 7 event.
In terms of what to expect from the device, 9 to 5 Mac claims that Apple Watch 2 will come equipped with a GPS, barometer, improved waterproofing protection and a new performance-boosting internal SoC. At the same time, 9 to 5 Mac is predicting the physical design of the Apple Watch 2 will remain mostly unchanged.
MacRumors.com expects the following seven features from the next generation Apple Watch:
- Two sizes (38mm and 42mm).
- Faster processor.
- Better waterproofing.
- GPS.
- Better battery life.
- Barometer.
- Same form feature.
“There’s still one more feature we believe they want to play out in terms of the functionality of the watch, and that’s the decoupling of it with the iPhone,” Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster recently told Benzinga’s PreMarket Prep.
“If you had a watch that was coupled with some sort of LTE or a radio in it, then that would allow you to do text messages and phone calls from your watch.” Munster didn’t speculate on when Apple Watch users could expect these features.
At this point, the only thing that seems certain about the Apple Watch 2 is that the long wait is nearly over.
