Playboy Coming To Amazon: Hugh Hefner Docu-Series To Debut In 2017

As the online video content battle intensifies, Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN has decided to place a bet on Playboy’s Hugh Hefner. The company announced it had green-lit the Amazon Original Series "American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story."

This 13-episode docu-series will look into the founder of Playboy,  his life, adventures and impact on world culture, and will debut on Amazon Prime Video in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Japan in 2017.

"American Playboy" will begin in the post-war America and the launch of Playboy magazine in 1953, and go on to take viewers through the 60 years of history that followed, looking beyond the magazine, and into Hefner’s political and civil rights activism.

"The 90-year-old Hefner has been deeply involved in the development and production of American Playboy, imbuing the series with rich first-person accounts and never-before-told stories,” Amazon said.

“Although Hugh Hefner is an iconic figure known worldwide, most people may not be aware of the impact he has had on some of this country’s most important social revolutions,” Conrad Riggs, Head of Unscripted content at Amazon Studios, added.

Finally, Hefner himself said, "I'm pleased that this docuseries will shed light on what has been an incredible journey and the voice Playboy has had in the discussion of our ever-changing culture. Just as importantly, my hope is that it will inspire others to pursue their dreams."
