Biogen Said Not to be Actively Soliciting for Buyers

The Rumor:
Biogen Inc BIIB has not received any formal interest from potential buyers and is not actively soliciting takeover bids, according to sources reported by Reuters on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported Allergan AGN and Merck MRK had expressed interest and were engage in informal and preliminary talks. Biogen today, said it had not received any formal expressions of interest from potential buyers and was not soliciting offers.

Biogen closed at $321.34 on Wednesday, down 2.66%.

 

Steve Ballmer, Prince Alwaleed Said to Bid for Twitter

The Rumor:
Shares of Twitter TWTR surged higher Wednesday, on unconfirmed market chatter of a potential takeover offer from former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Saudi Prince Alwaleed. "Sources" say an offer in the range of $22 to $26 is being discussed. Steve Ballmer declined comment in an email to CNBC.

Twitter closed at $17.61 on Wednesday, up 7.25%.

 

Wal-Mart Said to be in Talks to Acquire Jet.com

The Rumor:
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. WMT is in talks to acquire Jet.com, according to sources as reported by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday. The online retail is said to valued at as much as $3 billion, a source said. Wal-Mart is seeking to make a dent in Amazon's AMZN online presence and compete with the Prime service.

Wal-Mart closed Wednesday at $72.94, down $0.19.
