Fitbit, Inc. FIT said it has hired two-decade veteran Adam Pellegrini as its VP of Digital Health. He would assume the role on September 6. The fitness tracker said that Pellegrini would be held responsible for leading its vision, strategies and programs to drive its integration into healthcare systems throughout the world. The news comes on the heels of the stock breaching its 50-day moving average on July 29.

Fitbit said Pellegrini would exploit the power of its products, software and services in this new role to help create better clinical health outcomes. At the same time, he would also identify new revenue opportunities, building on the momentum the company has had with disease management, insurance and wellness programs.

The fitness firm said the new VP brings in over two decades of experience in multiple sectors of the healthcare industry. This included insurers, providers, health technology and non profits. He comes from Walgreens Boots Alliance, where he served as the VP of Digital Health. He led a biggest retail team of mHealth integrated of over one million connected gadgets in Walgreens.

Fitbit's Chief Business Officer, Woody Scal, said, "Over the past nine years, we've enabled millions of people around the world to lead healthier, more active lives by helping them to be more active, sleep better, eat smarter, and manage their weight. These are some of the very changes healthcare systems and disease management programs encourage people to make to help prevent or mitigate chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity."
