The Dow rose 0.04 percent to 18,481.20, while the NASDAQ composite index rose 0.43 percent to 5,132.17. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 0.15 percent to 2,166.03.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Textile - Apparel Clothing: This industry slipped 2.4 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Carter's, Inc. CRI, which fell 8.3 percent. Carter's posted Q2 earnings of $0.72 per share on revenue of $639 million.
  • REIT - Residential: This industry declined 1.4 percent by 11:00 am with Equity Residential EQR moving down 4.9 percent. Equity Residential reported Q2 funds from operations of $0.76 per share. Equity Residential also narrowed its FFO forecast for FY16.
  • Movie Production, Theaters: This industry fell 1.3 percent by 11:00 am ET. Cinemark Holdings, Inc. CNK shares dropped 3 percent in today's trading. Cinemark shares have declined 1.11 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 4.91 percent in the same period.
  • Cigarettes: The industry dropped 1.3 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Altria Group Inc MO, which declined 2 percent. Altria reported Q2 adjusted earnings of $0.81 per share and raised its FY16 earnings outlook.
