The Dow fell 0.48 percent to 18,404.41, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.16 percent to 5,089.24. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 0.28 percent to 2,162.45.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • REIT - Hotel/Motel: This industry slipped 1.8 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Pebblebrook Hotel Trust PEB, which fell 6.1 percent. Pebblebrook Hotel Trust posted adjusted funds from operations of $0.81 per share for the second quarter.
  • Security Software & Services: This industry declined 1.7 percent by 11:00 am with Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. CHKP moving down 6 percent. Check Point posted upbeat Q2 profit.
  • Biotechnology: This industry fell 1.6 percent by 11:00 am ET. Tokai Pharmaceuticals Inc TKAI shares dropped 77 percent in today's trading. Tokai Pharmaceuticals reported that it is planning to discontinue the Phase 3 ARMOR3-SV trial of prostate cancer treatment.
  • Drug Related Products: The industry dropped 1.5 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was ProPhase Labs Inc PRPH, which declined 7 percent. ProPhase Labs shares have climbed 5.33 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 4.88 percent in the same period.
