Netflix, 20th Century Fox Television Distribution Strike First Global Deal

Netflix, Inc. NFLX and 20th Century Fox Television Distribution revealed they struck their first global SVOD licensing agreement. Accordingly, the streaming video service provider would be the exclusive global streaming home for Fox hit, American Crime Story.

Netflix and 20th Century indicated that the first season of the franchise would be available in 2017 globally barring Canada. That meant that all seasons would be made available after their respective broadcast windows. The companies added that the 22-time Emmy-nominated first season, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story concluded its 10-episode run as cable's most-watched new series of the current year.

The company disclosed that the first season of this limited series goes inside the O.J. Simpson trial and explores the chaotic, behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court. It added that series also deals with as to how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed, i.e. reasonable doubt.

Both the companies indicated the second season of American Crime Story, which would focus on Hurricane Katrina, would debut on FX next year.

Global Television VP, Sean Carey, said, "We're excited to evolve our relationship with FOX and to bring their lauded content to our members around the world. Given the popularity of the first season of American Crime Story, we are thrilled to offer this acclaimed drama series to our members."
