BlackBerry Limited BBRY revealed that a federal jury ruled in favor of the Canadian firm in a patent infringement case filed by Mobile Telecommunications LLC (MTel) in the District Court for the Northern District of Texas in the United States. According to the company, the court ruling was a sweeping victory for it, as the jury found that it did not infringe the MTel patent at issue.

BlackBerry said that MTel originally alleged that the Canadian company infringed its five patents. Before the trial, the Court found that two of the patents were directed to non-patentable subject matter. That meant that it did not infringe one of the patents, and that one of the patents was indefinite.

The company indicated the patent in-suit covered a two-way communication system for communication between a system network and a mobile unit.

Chief Legal Officer, Steve Zipperstein, said, "We are pleased with the jury's verdict. We will continue defending BlackBerry vigorously against meritless lawsuits."
