The Dow fell 0.12 percent to 18,484.74, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.25 percent to 5,021.28. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 0.30 percent to 2,157.17.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • General Entertainment: This industry slipped 1.8 percent by 1:00 pm. The worst stock within the industry was Carnival plc (ADR) CUK, which fell 2.6 percent. Carnival shares have dropped 12.26 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 2.67 percent in the same period.
  • Home Furnishing Stores: This industry declined 1.7 percent by 1:00 pm with Restoration Hardware Holdings Inc RH moving down 3.2 percent. Restoration Hardware shares have tumbled 71.21 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 2.67 percent in the same period.
  • Nonmetallic Mineral Mining: This industry fell 1.4 percent by 1:00 pm. Yanzhou Coal Mining Co Ltd (ADR) YZC shares dropped 3.7 percent in today's trading. Yanzhou Coal Mining shares have surged 11.51 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 2.67 percent in the same period.
  • Electronics Stores: The industry dropped 1.3 percent by 1:00 pm. The worst performer in this industry was Appliance Recycling Centers of America ARCI, which declined 2.2 percent.
