The Dow rose 0.89 percent to 18,535.72, while the NASDAQ composite index gained 0.78 percent to 5,044.55. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.73 percent to 2,168.23.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Silver: This industry slipped 0.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Silver Standard Resources Inc. (USA) SSRI, which fell 3.4 percent. Silver futures dropped 0.82 percent to trade at $20.25 an ounce.
  • Dairy Products: This industry declined 0.7 percent by 11:00 am with Dean Foods Co DF moving down 0.8 percent. Dean Foods is expected to post quarterly earnings on August 8, 2016.
  • Office Supplies: This industry fell 0.6 percent by 11:00 am ET. Spire Inc SR shares dropped 1 percent in today's trading. Spire shares have climbed 27.35 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 2.06 percent in the same period.
  • Home Health Care: The industry dropped 0.5 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Almost Family Inc AFAM, which declined 1 percent.
