Toyota Motor June Sales Slip 5.6%

Toyota Motor Corp (ADR) TM reported its sales of 198,257 units for June month in the United States. This represented 5.6 percent drop from June 2015 on a volume basis. According to the company, with one additional selling day in the current year, sales were down 9.2 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis.

Toyota division disclosed June sales of 172,478 units, which was down 6.2 percent on a volume basis, and 9.8 percent on a DSR basis. As far as Lexus is concerned, its June sales of 25,779 units were down 1.3 percent on a volume basis, and 5.1 percent on a DSR basis.

For the first half of the current year too, Toyota reported 2.7 percent fall in sales of 1.197 million units on a DSR basis. The company added that with the same amount of selling days in the first half of both the periods, sales were down 2.7 percent on an unadjusted raw-volume basis.

The company's group VP and GM for Toyota Division said, "The auto industry had its best first half since 2000. Toyota remains the No. 1 retail brand for the first half, and anticipates record sales for the year for our light trucks as availability continues to strengthen."

Similarly, Lexus group VP and GM Jeff Bracken said, "Lexus maintained its strength in the luxury SUV segment with a particularly strong sales month for RX and NX as both models have momentum with consumers. Our meticulously crafted products continue to garner industry attention. In June, our Lexus manufacturing facility in Kentucky, which builds the ES sedan, earned a JD Power Platinum award for initial quality."

Some of the highlights from June sales number were that Corolla reported 30,950 unit sales while Camry reported 32,561 unit sales in June. Similarly, its Tacoma posts 15,809 unit sales in June.

Shares of the company were down 0.34 percent at time of writing, trading at $99.65.
