Ikea Recalls Millions Of Dressers: Here's Why

Ikea faced a public backlash last year after two toddlers tragically died when they climbed on a dresser that wasn't fastened to a wall. Sadly, a third toddler died this week under similar circumstances, prompting the furniture maker to completely recall the dresser and release an urgent warning to customers.

The dressers recalled include the "MALM" series and other children's and adult chests and dressers. Ikea estimates 8 million MALM chests and dressers and 21 million additional children's and adult chests and dressers were sold in the United States alone.

Ikea urged its clients in a press release Tuesday to "immediately stop using any recalled chest and dresser that is not properly anchored to the wall and place it into an area that children cannot access." The company added that consumers are entitled to a free wall anchoring kit, which can be installed for free by a representative of the company.

Consumers who for whatever reason cannot anchor the dresser to the wall can return the product for a full refund.
