Wal-Mart Pay Now Available In Michigan And Washington, D.C.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. WMT's Wal-Mart Pay is a way for customers to pay via smartphones in Wal-Mart stores. The payment capabilities are now available in the state of Michigan and in the District of Columbia, according to a series of press releases.

Similar to cash, credit or debit options, customers are provided with an opportunity to use the checkout-changing service, which is available in more than 90 Michigan locations and three D.C. locations.

Wal-Mart Pay aims to improve the way customers check out, is a unique solution. With a debut of this app, "Walmart becomes the only retailer to offer its own payment solution that is works with any iOS and Android device, at any checkout lane, and with any major credit, debit, pre-paid or Wal-Mart gift card," the release read.

The Wal-Mart app is actively used by more than 20 million customers every month, placing it in the top 3 of the retail apps in both the Alphabet Inc GOOG GOOGL's Google Play Store and the Apple Inc. AAPL's Apple App Store.

"The service was built to make shopping easier and faster, something we know our customers want. Walmart Pay is a powerful addition to our app, a tool that we're using to transform the shopping experience by seamlessly connecting our online assets and our stores for customers. The service opens the door to new and better ways we can serve the 140 million customers who shop our stores each week," said Daniel Eckert, senior vice president of services at Walmart U.S.
