Amazon Faces A $350,000 Fine For Doing What?

Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN may be fined $350,000 by the Federal Aviation Administration for a shipping accident that occurred in 2014.

According to CNN Money, Amazon failed to properly package or label a box it shipped to customers that contained the Liquid Fire drain cleaner. It was reported that nine UPS employees came into contact with the box and reported a burning sensation and had to be treated with a chemical wash.

CNN Money noted U.S. regulators are paying close attention to Amazon's shipping methods when it comes to hazardous materials. In fact, the e-commerce giant was slapped with 24 infractions between February 2013 and September 2015 for violating safety protocols in its shipping methods.

Amazon has been fined nearly $1.3 million in 22 of those infractions.

The company was quoted by CNN Money as saying in a statement that it takes the safety of its deliver partners "seriously."

"We ship tens of millions of products every day and have developed sophisticated technologies to detect potential shipping hazards and use any defects as an opportunity for continuous improvement," Amazon also said in its statement. "We will continue to partner with the FAA in this area."
