Netflix Schedules 'Little Prince' For August Launch Following Drop By Studio

The saga of "The Little Prince" is getting a happy ending.

On Thursday, Netflix, Inc. NFLX announced the animated adaptation of the acclaimed children's tale will begin streaming on its servers starting August 5. The move comes after Netflix picked up the film project after Paramount (Viacom, Inc. VIAB) shockingly dropped the movie just weeks before its street date.

Paramount has never really given a reason why it decided to not distribute "Prince," but the movie's producers never stopped holding out hope. The movie has already been released in over 50 countries and territories and translated into 10 different languages.

With a voice cast of Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Paul Rudd, Marion Cotillard, James Franco and Ricky Gervais, this project clearly had star power. For Netflix, though this is just another example of how the powerful and innovative media company continues to tweak its business model to seek out and add new content.
