Verizon Offers New Prepaid Plans

Verizon Communications Inc. VZ has come out with offers for prepaid smartphone plans on terms starting at $30 a month. The announcement comes on the heels of T-Mobile US Inc TMUS revealing new plans for the summer.

According to Verizon, starting from May 15, its pre-paid subscribers would get more data on their flexible, affordable smartphone plans. The company indicated that subscribers would get unlimited calling to Canada and Mexico from its biggest prepaid plan for the first time.

The telecom service provider's prepaid plans for basic phones included unlimited talk, text and mobile web for $30 per month; and 300 voice minutes, texts or multimedia messages with any combination apart from unlimited mobile web for $15 per month.

The company's VP of consumer pricing, Rob Miller, commented, "Whether you're just starting out with your own wireless plan or simply love to have complete control of your wireless spending, prepaid plans give you the best network on the latest phones. Prepaid plans from Verizon keep you in control without the worry of overages or hidden fees."

Verizon also disclosed its new prepaid plans for smartphones that included 6 GB of data including 1 GB of AutoPay Bonus Data with unlimited talk and text in the U.S. and unlimited text and calling to Mexico and Canada for $60 per month compared to earlier plan of 3GB. Its another plan was 3 GB of data including 1 GB of AutoPay Bonus Data with unlimited talk and text in the U.S., plus text to Mexico and Canada for $45 per month compared to the previous plan of 1GB only. The telecom service firm said that unlimited talk, text, Wi-Fi came for only $30 per month.

In the pre-market trading on Thursday, the stock traded 0.4 percent up.
