Fox Stabilizes Roster With Renewals Of Freshman Hits 'Lucifer' and 'Rosewood'

Despite strong buzz for its freshman class, Fox's

fall season for the second straight year got off to a rough start. However a pair of surprise hits have one again come to the rescue and the network on Thursday ensured they'd be back for a encore. "Rosewood" and "Lucifer" were never seen as the strongest shows on Fox's 2015-2016 slate but they quickly became leaders. Aside from being from its own studio, "Rosewood" became one of the fall's first hits. With "Empire" as its lead-out, the medical procedural starring Morris Chestnut immediately found a home. The Wednesday night series averages 7. 8 million total viewers. Meanwhile "Lucifer" used its "X-Files" lead-in to its advantage and continued to hold its own even after the limited run revival wrapped. The Warner Bros. produced series averages 10.5 million viewers a week and is in the top five highest-rated new shows in the 18-49 demo. The success of the pair is good news to investors who were spooked by the poor live numbers of the also renewed "Scream Queens" and the declining numbers of "Empire" which may have been over-exposed by the network. "The Grinder," "Grandfathered," and "Sleepy Hollow" remain firmly on the bubble and likely won't learn fates for another month.
