Twitter's New Feature Marks The 'Next Step Towards Making Conversations Richer'

Twitter Inc TWTR introduced on Tuesday a new feature that allows its members to privately share a Tweet.

Twitter's Product Manager, Somas Thyagaraja, announced in a blog post that users will notice something different on Tweets - a Message button. The new button allows users to share a Tweet via Direct Message and "spark a private conversation."

The blog post stated that millions of people send Direct Messages through Twitter's platform. In fact, the number of messages sent grew by more than 60 percent throughout 2015.

"With all this interest, we've also heard from many of you that it could be easier to share a Tweet using Direct Message," Thyagaraja wrote. "So now — in just a few taps — you can share unique Twitter content from your timeline right into your private conversation."

Thyagaraja added that the update marks Twitter's "next step towards making conversations richer in Direct Messages." Prior updates to the platform including integrating GIFs, emjoies and long private messages.

The update will be available as of Tuesday on Twitter for iOS and Android.

Shares of Twitter were trading higher by 0.32 percent early Tuesday afternoon as investors and traders likely found a report that the company has won the rights to stream NFL games encouraging.
