Weight Watchers Spikes After Oprah Weight Loss Promo Is Revealed

Weight Watchers International, Inc. WTW shares have gained more than 3 percent after its member Oprah Winfrey showed off her weight loss progress on the latest cover of O Magazine.

The lifestyle guru posed with nine regular women for the April cover of O Magazine in the name of living their healthiest lives.

Winfrey, who became a part-owner of Weight Watchers in October, announced in January that she's dropped 26 lbs. since starting the program – all while indulging in her favorite food: bread.

"Gone, for me, are the days of wanting to be thin to fit into anything other than my best body and best life," she says.

In October, Weight Watchers said Winfrey will purchase newly issued shares representing 10 percent of the shares outstanding and will receive options to acquire an additional 5 percent of the fully diluted shares. Winfrey had said the program has helped her completely change her mindset about weight loss.

"For me, that happened when the cravings stopped. But something else clicked: this isn't a diet. And I'm not going to diet anymore because I'm ready to live – not just my best life, but what is the most extraordinary, fullest expression of my being," Winfrey said.

"Every single Leader has found success with Weight Watchers – they know what it's like to be overweight. It's like having an army of experts ready to help you make smart choices," she added.

Share of Weight Watchers were up 3 percent at $14.53. They have dropped 36 percent in the last one year.
