The CW Reveals Spring Lineup; Adds 'Containment' And 'Reign' To Roster

While sister-network CBS Corporation CBS revealed (most) of its spring lineup months ago, the CW is just now making its final tweaks. On Thursday, the network pulled back the curtain on its back-half schedule, which includes a new series that could draw attention.

The CW shocked media buyers last May when it added just one new show to its fall lineup and saved the others for midseason. The first, "DC's Legends Of Tomorrow" got off to a fast start last month, and the other, "Containment," is hoping to follow suit on April 19.

"Containment" follows a strategy the network used a few years with "The 100." The delayed start worked out well for the now third-year series, which itself just returned last month. "Containment" puts on a new spin on the "virus" genre that has worked well across pop culture, especially for zombie projects (which this is refreshingly not).

"Containment" will also get the benefit of airing after "The Flash," which this week saw a 14-month-ratings highs. If any show on the CW could help the network launch a new series, it's "The Flash." Current timeslot inhabitant "iZombie" will wrap its second season the week prior with back-to-back new episodes.

Less than a week later, "Reign" will come off the bench and take over the Monday at 8 p.m. slot that is currently occupied by "My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." The third-year series will be paired with "Jane The Virgin."
