Ford Shares Shrug Off Safety Recall Of Nearly 400,000 Vehicles

Shares of Ford Motor Company F were trading higher by more than 2 percent at $12.25 heading into Tuesday's afternoon session despite the company's announcement earlier in the day that the company is expanding a safety recall.

Ford's stock opened for trading at $12.14 and traded off to an intra-day low of $12.04 before rebounding to an intra-day high of $12.28.

Ford stated its expanded safety recall follows a deceleration by Takata that certain airbag inflators are defective. As such, the company is recalling all 2004-2006 Ford Rangers that were built in America.

A total of 391,394 vehicles are now affected by the expanded recall, including 361,692 vehicles in the U.S. and 29,334 vehicles in Canada. Ford dealers will replace the driver side airbag inflator for free.

Ford added that it is "aware of one report of a death related to a Takata airbag deployment."
