Netflix Gets Nearly 5m Viewers for "Jessica Jones," But Falls Short of Primetime Numbers

Netflix viewership analysis released Friday revealed strong support for the company's original programming in the last months of 2015.

However, even Netflix's extensive user base and millions of instances of Netflix and chill aren't enough for it to compete with broadcast TV number, according to the media analysis firm Symphony Advanced Media.

Netflix had three shows with 3 million or more viewers over a 35-day period in September and October 2015: "Jessica Jones," "Master of None," and "Narcos."

These were the most-watched shows across the streaming services included in the data, which also covered Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus and Crackle. Amazon Prime was the only other service to break a million viewers for a program in that same period, with "The Man in the High Castle" drawing 2.1 million viewers.

Streaming TV is still the junior varsity of TV numbers, however. Broadcast numbers for a similar time period beat Netflix's viewership threefold.

CBS' "The Big Bang Theory," Fox's "Empire," and ABC's "Modern Family" all at least doubled Netflix's numbers, with 10.6, 8.5 and 7.8 million viewers respectively.

At press time, Netflix shares stood at $101.83, down from Friday's 104.72 open.
