Herbalife Drops After Traders Pass Around Report Of Product-Related Death; Source Questionable

Shares of Herbalife Ltd. HLF came under selling pressure Wednesday morning after traders passed around a questionable and unconfirmed report from Elsiglo - a publication based in Venezuela.

According to a Google Translate of the Elsiglo report, a 28-year-old person died after becoming addicted to Herbalife's weight loss products.

The report stated that the deceased individual "hardly ate" and "drank only one Herbalife shake daily."

The victim was said to have suffered from "sharp pains throughout the body, particularly the kidneys" before being admitted to a hospital.

Benzinga reached out to Herbalife for comments on the unverified report.

Shares traded recently at $50.25, down 1.2 percent.
