zColo, the data center and colocation business of Zayo Group Holdings, Inc.
ZAYO
, has partnered with Netflix to become a founding member and the primary infrastructure sponsor for Community IX Holdings' (CIX) newest community-based peering exchange in Atlanta, Georgia (CIX-ATL). Community IX Holdings is also the operator of the Florida Internet Exchange (FL-IX). zColo will provide space, power and the critical underlying network connectivity to support the launch of CIX-ATL. Netflix will provide the switching equipment and associated technology required to run the exchange. Community IX Holdings, a Virginia-based, non-profit entity pending 501(c)(6) certification, was launched last year at the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) meeting, NANOG 62, in Baltimore, Maryland. CIX is a member-driven peering platform currently serving the southeastern U.S. and Latin American markets and resides in the zColo data center at 36 NE 2nd Street in Miami. The new CIX-ATL platform will reside in the zColo carrier neutral colocation facility at 1100 White Street SW, in Atlanta. Initial member participants on CIX-ATL include Netflix and Zayo, who are actively seeking peers for interconnection. "Our participation, support and ongoing sponsorship of CIX reflects our commitment to the Open IX model and to providing greater optionality for exchanging traffic," said Dave Temkin, director of Global Networks at Netflix and chair of CIX. "The Atlanta market represents substantial increasing Internet traffic volumes and a true need for more connectivity options. We anticipate CIX-ATL will be well received by many major content and network providers as a primary alternative peering point for the Atlanta market. The CIX-ATL exchange should also enable emerging providers to participate in this cost-effective peering community. We intend on certifying the CIX-ATL environment with the OIX-1 standard as soon as possible." "The new Internet exchange, coupled with the facility's OIX-2 Certification, demonstrate zColo's commitment to provide customers with open, cost-effective peering solutions," said Steve Finnerty, vice president of business development at Zayo's zColo. "Ultra connectivity and interconnect optionality are the cornerstones of Zayo's colocation services." The Zayo zColo facility was recently granted OIX-2 Certification for its adherence to community-derived standards of operation and client service.
