Taser Acquires British Distributor Tactical Safety Responses

Shares of TASER International, Inc. TASR were trading higher by 1 percent shortly after the open to Monday's trading session after the company announced its latest acquisition.

Taser announced on Monday that its wholly owned subsidiary, TASER International BV, has acquired Tactical Safety Responses Limited (TSR), a U.K.-based distributor of Smart Weapons and body cameras. The acquisition marks the company's second notable purchase in recent months after acquiring MediaSolv Solutions for $13 million in early May.

Taser's acquisition consists of an undisclosed all-cash tender with a potential earn out based on future U.K. sales over a three-year period. The company's strengthened position in the U.K. market marks its commitment to offer U.K. law enforcement agencies a "fully connected platform of products" and to "bring key public safety technologies to its partners across the UK by growing its in country sales and support team."

The U.K. team will operate under the name "Axon Public Safety UK."

"We are deeply committed to making the Axon Platform the leading cloud, mobile and wearable technology ecosystem across the United Kingdom," said TASER CEO and founder, Rick Smith. He further noted, "This is all about getting closer to our customers. We are decreasing the communication distance from our customers to our product developers and support teams, some of which will be moving in country. Beyond offering heightened support, we'll now be positioned to better develop UK customer-driven solutions, from nationwide data management systems to UK specific use-of-force reporting. In preparation for this acquisition and our expanded footprint, we've added additional sales staff, customer support and field engineers."

Taser noted that it will further discuss the acquisition during its second quarter post earnings conference call on Thursday, July 30, at 11:00 a.m. ET.
