Apple Inc.AAPL
is preparing early production of its newest iPhone model with a unique feature called "Force Touch." According to a report by
Bloomberg, Force Touch senses how hard users press down on the phone's screen and lets users adjust the strength of their screen taps to bring up different functions. Force Touch technology already exists in the Apple Watch and can tell the difference between harder and softer touches. The feature is also available on Apple's latest MacBooks which were released in May. Bloomberg also noted that the new iPhone will come in the same 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions and have a similar exterior demand. The similar exterior demand is expected to result in a "smooth" assembly and production which is expected to ramp up as soon as next month. However, Bloomberg noted that sources familiar with production suggested that the timing and production volume of Force Touch-enabled phones could be impacted by the supply and yield of the displays. News of Apple's new features follows recent reports that Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is scheduled to release a new version of its flagship phone, Galaxy S7 in late 2015, marking its second major release as the Galaxy S6 was released in early 2015. In addition, Apple is hoping its new feature is enough to entice users to upgrade from older iPhones or switch over from a competitor. Several media reports are speculating Samsung's Galaxy S7 is expected to feature a breakthrough battery technology in which the device can last a week on a single charge.
