World soccer's governing agency
re-elected its president Joseph Sepp Blatter Friday even as corruption allegations threatened to cripple the organization.
Blatter's challenger to head the group, Ali bin al-Hussein, withdrew following the first round of balloting at a meeting in Zurich of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA.
"I take the responsibility to bring back FIFA," Blatter said Friday following his re-election. "The guilty ones, if confirmed guilty, are individuals, it's not the entire organization."
Also at Friday's meeting: the Palestinian Football Association withdrew a proposal to boot Israel from the federation.
FIFA instead formed a committee to oversee the movement of players in and out of the Palestinian territories.
