When asked whether they plan to purchase a wearable device, such as the Apple Watch, Moto 360, Samsung Gear 2 or Pebble Steel, 36% of people who use a mobile device at work either already own one or are at least somewhat likely to purchase one, according to the MobileIron Gen M Survey. Of those professionals, 94% want to use wearable devices for work tasks, including:
58% want to use wearable devices to read emails
58% want to use them to make phone calls
46% want to use them to write emails
43% want to use them to get alerts, such as meeting reminders
39% want to use them to access their calendar
37% want to use them to read documents
28% want to use them to surf their company intranet
Wearables, like the Apple Watch, are coming to work.
"We have seen headlines about the massive consumer demand for Apple Watch, but it is astonishing to see this level of enterprise demand before it is even available," said Ojas Rege, Vice President of Strategy, MobileIron. "Businesses should be updating their mobile strategies to include data and privacy protections that take Apple Watch into account."
The MobileIron Gen M Survey studied more than 3,500 full- and part-time professionals who use a mobile device for work across France, Germany, Japan, Spain, UK and US. The study was conducted online by Harris Poll on behalf of MobileIron between December 2014 and January 2015.
