TASER International, Inc. TASR has been featured as the subject of a documentary called “Tom Swift and His Electric Rifle” at the Tribeca Film Festival, according to a Business Insider report.

The film suggests that the company’s stun guns are far more dangerous than has been previously suggested and can cause cardiac arrest even though the company has claimed this is not the case.

The company’s training documents recommend, however, that shots to the chest area should be avoided due to “the controversy about whether ECDs do or do not affect the human heart.”

According to the report, the film makes the company’s founders “appear more and more sinister as we see them jump through hoops to avoid taking responsibility for the potential harm their product inflicts.”

In addition to an example of a suspect’s death caught on police cameras when tasered, there were “a few other unfathomable moments in the film that truly have to be seen to be believed.”

The report added, “‘Tom Swift’ highlights the ineptitude not only of Taser International but also of the governing bodies and police departments that have allowed this organization to essentially have a monopoly over the training and safety of the device.”

The report claimed that the actions of Taser International and its founders are “bigger than some true-crime story” since it has an “effect on every American citizen.”

TASER International, Inc. closed at $29.50, down 2.86 percent.
