GoPro Inc'sGPRO
dominance in the action-camera space stems from its top-notch performance and lack of serious competitors in the space. The competitive landscape may now change as Engadget
reported
on Monday that Blackmagic Design is about to launch its new camera called Micro Cinema Camera. According to the publication, Blackmagic's camera comes with a Super 16 sensor and RAW video with 13 stops of dynamic range with a built-in drone radio control inputs – a nod to its intended usage. Blackmagic is expected to officially reveal the camera at some point on Monday. Shares of GoPro hit a 52-week highs of $98.47 late last year following its initial public offering. Since then, shares have sold off and have lost more than half of its value. The reason for the decline can also be attributed to competitive concerns stemming from China. China-based Xiaomi, best known as being one of the leading smart-phone manufacturers in China recently entered the action camera space with a GoPro like device. The price tag on the camera is a shocking $64, according to Petapixel. Not only is the device cheaper, but it has "beefier specifications." Xiaomi doesn't sell its cameras internationally (and there is no indication that it will in the near-term) but consumers can always visit Chinese e-commerce websites that ship internationally such as
AliExpress to find the camera.
