, a leading provider of fiber-optic access network products for the internet datacenter, cable TV broadband, and fiber-to-the-home markets, today announced availability of a new 40 Gbps light engine, designed for datacenter applications. "AOI has a long history of innovation in advanced optical technologies," commented Dr. Fred Chang, AOI's Senior Vice President of Optical Components. "These new 40 Gbps light engines utilize our internal laser diode production capacity and our advanced, patent-pending, optical assembly designs. Manufacturing these advanced high-speed light engines at our factories in Asia will help ensure we deliver performance and reliability to our customers at a compelling cost advantage." The light engines are designed to be incorporated within 40 Gbps QSFP+ transceivers utilizing Multi-Fiber Push-On "MPO" optical connectors. They are available with either 1310-nm FP or DFB laser diodes, for transmission distances of 2-km up to 10-km at datarates up to 10.3125 Gbps per lane. They are designed to operate from -5°C to +75°C. Both types are currently in production and samples are available upon request.
