Facebook's Not The Only Tech Giant Entering The Workplace

Facebook Inc.’s FB latest foray into workplace communication isn’t the only big move going on in the corporate space this year; Amazon.com Inc. AMZN is also expanding its horizons to fulfill a growing need for effective online collaboration in the office.

On Wednesday, Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing arm, announced the planned launch of Amazon WorkMail, a new email solution that will add on to the company’s existing office solutions. The new system is expected integrate Amazon’s Zocalo file sharing program to compete with services like Dropbox by integrating file-sharing and email into one comprehensive program.

The WorkMail system is also being marketed by Amazon as a secure way for companies to share and store sensitive documents. The program will come with full encryption and the ability for companies to decide where their data will be stored.

The product is expected to become available for purchase in the second quarter and will be priced at $4 per user per month for just WorkMail or $6 per user per month for a Zocalo/WorkMail bundle.

It remains to be seen whether or not the internet giant will be able to compete with the likes of Microsoft Corporation MSFT or Google Inc. GOOG for corporate customers, but investors are hoping that this new offering will help push the company to generate a profit after several quarters of disappointing earnings.
