Report: Informatica In Preliminary Talks With Buyers

Informatica Corporation INFA jumped on a report the company is in preliminary contact with potential buyers.

Shares of Informatica changed hands recently at $42.72, up 4 percent.

Citing unnamed sources, Bloomberg said the company is is working with investment bankers at Qatalyst and could draw interest from private equity firms and software makers.

Activist investor Paul E. Singer revealed an 8.8 percent stake in Informatica Monday and said he might push for a sale of the company, which provides software for analyzing so-called big data.

Singer recently helped to push Riverbed Technology to sell itself to a private equity fund. Singer has had similar success in activist campaigns at BMC Software and Novell Inc.

Late Monday, Informatica rescheduled its release of fourth-quarter earnings to Tuesday after the bell, from an previous plan for Thursday.
