announced today that Bob DeFillippo, chief communications officer, will retire from the company in the first quarter of 2015. Colin McConnell, currently head of Advertising, will assume the newly created role of chief brand officer, with responsibility for global brand identity and public relations, domestic brand marketing and advertising, internal communications, and executive event planning. DeFillippo joined Prudential in 1994 from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), where he served as director of public affairs. He is an adjunct professor at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies, where he plans to continue to teach. Last year, he was elected to the Roxbury, New Jersey Township Council, and he serves on the boards of the Prudential Political Action Committee, the Public Relations Society of America Foundation, and the Arthur W. Page Society, where he is also treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee. He is also the current executive sponsor of EAGLES, Prudential's business resource group for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender individuals. “As chief communications officer, Bob has been instrumental in shaping Prudential's reputation. As he retires, Prudential is one of the most admired companies in the world,” said Vice Chairman Mark Grier. “Bob has led the company's internal and external communications during some of the most significant events in the company's history, including its demutualization, the financial crisis and the company's expansion into key international markets. We are grateful for his many years of distinguished service to Prudential.” McConnell has served as head of Prudential Advertising since 2009. He joined Prudential in 1991, and has played an integral role in defining and shaping the Prudential brand. During his career at Prudential, he has also served as an executive speechwriter and creative director in the company's fully integrated in-house advertising agency. McConnell holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Bucknell University. “As technology and new media continue to transform the marketplace, Prudential's ability to integrate communications and experiences across channels has been essential in building our brand and institutional reputation,” Grier said. “Colin is ideally suited to accelerate our growth in these areas as chief brand officer, bringing together the resources of Global Communications and Advertising. He will collaborate across business units and corporate functions to create a consistent and impactful brand presence, and he will partner closely with Naveen Agarwal, our new chief customer officer, to ensure consistency of brand and customer experience.” Prudential Financial, Inc.
