Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM) with more than 2 billion Red Bend-Enabled™ devices, announced that Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, has selected its over-the-air (OTA) Software Updating Service to automatically deliver OTA updates of new user interface elements, maps and points of interest to Garmin's K2 infotainment platform. K2 intelligently combines digital displays, voice control, infrared buttons and smartphone integration to safely provide drivers access to everything from navigation to vehicle diagnostics, communications, music and radio to real-time Internet information. Inspired by Garmin's avionics and marine technology, K2 turns the car dashboard into a digital cockpit that provides drivers a safe and intuitive way to stay connected and access all the functions they need while on the road. “Red Bend is known as the leading supplier for over-the-air firmware and software updates in the automotive industry, providing a solution that is secure and convenient for drivers,” said Matt Munn, Garmin managing director automotive OEM. “With Red Bend's OTA Software Updating Service, we offer the most efficient, secure, reliable updates -- over multiple connections -- to the connected car.” Red Bend's innovative delta technology significantly reduces the update file size to shorten the update process. Updates can easily be downloaded while the system is running and will be tested and verified on the platform to ensure uninterrupted operation during and after the software has been received and updated on the unit. Using a secure connection, built-in modem, Wi-Fi or the customer's mobile device, the K2 system will be able to automatically download any available update. “Infotainment systems are becoming more of a selling point within the automotive industry for manufacturers and consumers,” said Oren Betzaleli, EVP, products, strategy and marketing at Red Bend. “Partnering with Garmin gives Red Bend the continued opportunity to show how OTA software management not only enhances the infotainment system and map offerings, but benefits the entire automotive ecosystem with cost savings, increased security and customer loyalty.” Garmin's automotive OEM group utilizes the company's long-standing experience in user interface and hardware design from its automotive, avionics and marine segments to develop innovative in-car navigation, telematics and infotainment systems. Garmin's broad range of in-vehicle electronics for the automotive industry includes full infotainment and telematics systems, navigation software, location-based services, and integrated portable navigation systems. Garmin will be exhibiting at booth #35811 at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
